CHARACTER SKETCHES
Booger Brewster- (11-13) is Rita Rae Brewster's nephew's son who she is raising. It is never explained where his parents are but Rita Rae has been raising him for some time. He is obsessed with Dare Me Dan, a local dare devil that he and Rita Rae enjoy going to see together. He wears an old aviators hat with goggles, tights, and a cape that resembles Dare Me Dan's outfit all the time.
Rita Rae Brewster- (50's-late 60's) is the "mother hen" of the group; having recently turned 55 she has decided to make a list of everything she has wanted to do in her life but never got a chance. Get a tattoo of Burt Reynolds, get back into her favorite pair of jeans, etc. She starts off the show wearing a sweat pants, sweat band, etc. She likes country music and wears western clothes throughout the remainder of the show.
Maggie Sue- (15-21) is a beauty queen. She dreams of being an entertainer, her big number for the Miss Chili Bean Pageant is a Texas version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow with a country spin on the classic Dorothy outfit. She wears short shorts, heels-very Daisy Duke like.
Purla Abernathy- (40's-70's) is very put together (so it seems); she oversees everything that goes on at Topa. Married to the mayor of Topa she is very uptight and quick to panic.
Harlan Murphy-(mid 20's to late 30's) is one of several roles that may be played by one actor. Harlan is a reporter who comes to cover the cook-off, but is scared off as he gets caught in the cross fires of Cookie and Luanne's battle.
Cookie Buckwright- (mid 30's to mid 40's) wears a wig, big Texas hair, all her outfits coordinate. She and her husband Frank are having problems so she has come to Topa with her daughters and her sister Latrelle. She and Luanne McCloud are enemies at this point, although they were once friends as young ladies in the Miss Chili Bean.
Latrelle Stevens- (30's to 40's) is Cookie's sister. She is an eccentric pet fashion designer. Her clothes are as quirky as her designs. This is her first trip to Topa in a while.
Luanne McCloud-(mid 30's to mid 40's) is Cookie's enemy, although they were once friends. Luanne has never understood what she did to cause their friendship to end, but after years of insults she has also developed a razor wit that she often uses on Cookie. However, she continues to insult Cookie because this is the only way she can have any interaction with her. She owns a floral shop and runs an event planning business, she is very femine and her outfits show that.
Foster McCloud-(40's) is a former child actor; a good ole boy. He's handsome and although he dresses very relaxed, straw hat, Hawaiian shirts, and shorts; he is still attractive.
Mildred McCloud-(60's-up) is a whirlwind. Crass, rude, and honest she enjoys to see people squirm for her sheer enjoyment.
Tootie Jones- (late 40's-60's) is the sex kitten or "cougar" of the bunch she is rich and fun. Known for her many gentlemen callers she has found what seems to be "the one" in J.D. Chilingsworth.
Peachy Jackson-(mid 20's to early 30's) was homesless for a while, but Peachy is a new woman this year. Not only has she met a new man while on a trip to Mexico, but she is also carrying his baby. However, she has a secret that she worries will upset the ladies of Topa.
Chopper-(20's-40's) is the second role played by the performer portraying Harlan, Roscoe, and Dare Me Dan. He is a happy-go-lucky hippie that doesn't take anything to seriously.
Bobby Lee McCloud-(16-18) is Luanne's son. He's handsome and a good ole boy like his father. He wears cowboy boots, cowboy hat and a western shirt with no sleeves. He dreams of getting out of school and hitting the Texas roads on his motorcycle (much to the annoyance of his parents especially his father.)
Ruby McCloud-(12-15) is Luanne's daughter, she is a tomboy. She wears a Texas Ranger jersey and baseball cap. Luanne tries to talk her into participating in the Miss Chili Bean contest.
Bobbie Leigh-(16-18) is Cookie's daughter, a bookworm, she wears a college sweater and jeans. She too is hiding a secret that could send her mother off the deep end.
Roscoe-(30's-50's) is a security guard at Topa who is just waiting for the chance to use his new taser gun. This is the third part played by the actor portraying Harlan, Chopper, and Dare Me Dan.
J.D. Chilingsworth-(50's-60's) is a chili mogul, J.D. and has been seeing Tootie who told him all about Topa and the wonderful people. After hearing her stories he offers a contract to the winner to have their chili sold across the state. He wears a white suit with sequined chili peppers. He is extravagant, but humble and down to earth. He arrives to Topa in a 50ft chili pepper mobile.
